Sri Lanka’s shining light IYRE returns to Goldfat with five slices of future funk to spark the synapses.
First up is the title track ‘Light of Hope’ featuring the jazzy vocal stylings of Breezy Lee. From the opening we’re treated to heavenly pads and Breezy’s dreamy tones. Crisp and fresh drums follow as the vocals dance over the track followed by a deep and spacious bass line that just keeps twisting. IYRE indulges in a lengthy and exquisite breakdown that allows Breezy to really open up before an energised second drop awakens the senses. Dazzling!
With ‘A Distant Memory’ IYRE creates a pulsating, contorting slab of digital soul that keeps building on top of itself before it all dissipates in the breakdown. Layers of atmosphere, synths and attention to the details do the story telling here. There’s ghosts in these machines!
On ‘Reversed Apology’ IYRE continues his story with his ever shifting and evolving soundscapes guiding us through the narrative. The beauty of art is what we transpose of ourselves into the meaning of the song. Sincere!‘
Retired Replicant’ has IYRE continuing his sci-fi epic with a dream like intro sequence that builds into a deep, dark, rolling, spacious drop and uses his space and layers to dizzying effect as the mind conjures a high speed chase through metropolis skies. Replicants don’t retire!
IYRE finishes with ‘Kalanthia’ and ups the ante for his final action sequence. Increasingly sinister pads lead us in to a dark space before IYRE unleashes his glitching, sliding assault. The stuff of robot dreams!
